My Journey

In the spring of 2010, I found myself short of breath whenever I climbed stairs. It was baffling. I consulted various doctors who were equally puzzled and prescribed different medications, but nothing helped.

One physician suggested seeing a specialized functional medicine doctor. Unsure about what that entailed, I hesitantly researched and found that functional medicine doctors focus on identifying and addressing the underlying cause of health issues.

The functional medicine doctor conducted specific tests and diagnosed me with Mold Biotoxin Illness or Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS). Knowing there was a tangible reason for my condition brought relief. My journey towards healing involved changes in diet, environment, supplements, and IV treatments. Slowly but surely, my body began to recover and reverse the effects of the illness. While not fully cured, I now manage and control CIRS daily – there is no magical solution, but it can be tamed.

The doctor suspected CIRS and performed blood tests for HLA-DR and HLA-DQ genes, which indicated CIRS susceptibility. They also examined elevated cytokine levels in my blood, significant variations in specific hormones and antibodies, which revealed abnormal mold biotoxin levels due to indoor air contamination. Furthermore, they analyzed my residential and professional environments to determine any ongoing mold exposure or past triggers.

Realizing my health issues had a valid source was a relief; however, the fight against CIRS is ongoing. Through diligent monitoring, I have managed to reverse mold biotoxin’s effects on my health over time.

I hope that sharing my knowledge and experiences on this website helps empower you to lead a healthier life while managing the consequences of mold biotoxins on your well-being—just as I have been doing.

What is Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome?

Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) is an increasingly prevalent condition characterized by a variety of symptoms and specific laboratory abnormalities. It results from widespread inflammation triggered by biotoxins in the body, leading to immune system and often hormonal dysfunction. Mold illness falls under the umbrella of CIRS, but other sources of inflammation can include Lyme disease, additional tick-borne organisms, and certain spider bites, such as those from brown recluse spiders.

Due to its complex nature, CIRS patients frequently struggle to find accurate diagnoses, often visiting multiple doctors before finally discovering the root of their symptoms. This process can last years, leaving individuals feeling unwell for extended periods. Fortunately, recent advancements have provided relief to thousands of affected people.
